Scientific evidence reveals that we can add neurons to the parts of our brain that are most active when we feel happy and alert. Evidence shows that MBSR grads have done this. Happy people, it turns out, live longer, achieve more success, maintain stronger relationships and lead healthier lives. These are pretty good reasons to devote six weeks of your life to this program.
Mindfulness meditation is happiness training. It is not about trying to empty the mind of all thoughts. Rather, it's about learning how not to get caught up in the same-old-stories that are constantly filling our minds; stories that often result in unhealthy feelings and reactions. It’s about training our minds to choose healthy responses to life’s stressors.
MBSR 6 week program includes:
• Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
• Gentle stretching and introductory mindful yoga
• Group dialogue
• Daily homework assignments
• 4 CDs and a practice manual
• Full Day of Mindfulness
Nancy Lasseter has been teaching MBSR in the Gainesville community since 2004. In addition to her work as an Integrative Medicine Practitioner at Shands Arts in Medicine, she has a small private practice as a Mental Health Counselor specializing in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for anxiety, depression, and self esteem issues.
