Shana Smith

In 2007,Shana Smith  took refuge in the Sanbo Zen Lineage, in which she is now a certified assistant teacher.  The Sanbo School of Zen is a hybrid of the Soto and Rinzai Schools, started by Yasutani Haku’un Roshi on 8 January 1954. The current abbot,  Yamada Ryôun Roshi , is based in Kamakura, Japan.

 Florida Sanbo Zen Center (FSZC) practices true to the tradition of Sanbo Zen International, under the guidance of Valerie Forstman Roshi and  Shana.

Join Florida Sanbo Zen:

  • In person at Karuna Cottage or online for Monday Night Zazen from 6:00 – 7:45 pm.

  • Online Morning Practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 – 7:00 am

  • Online Chair Yoga: Fridays 1:00 – 1:45

Shana is also a member of the Florida Community of Mindfulness, and has taken the Bodhisattva Vows. Over the years, she has found a tremendous synergy between Yoga and Zen, and integrates the two in her daily, committed practice. Shana is also a writer, a musician and vocalist and leads chanting groups in St. Pete and at Karuna Cottage. Check the calendar for upcoming gatherings.
